چکیده

The possible protective role of exogenous SA and NO donor (sodium nitroprusside) against salt stress was examined NaCl-induced oxidative stress in Glycine max L. The results indicated that NaCl-induced ionic toxicity led to significant increase of Na uptake in root and shoot of soybean, while K and Ca uptake was decreased markedly. Application of SA, SNP and the combination of SA with SNP inhibited Na uptake, but improved K and Ca uptake. Under NaCl salinity, germination percentage (GP) was decreased significantly as compared with control plants. Moreover, the activity of lipoxygenase (LOX) was increased by NaCl, while the application of SA, NO and SA + SNP could decrease LOX activity in this condition. As well, activities of the polyphenol oxidase (PPO) and phenylalanine ammonia lyase (PAL) were significantly decreased by 100 mM NaCl, while the application of exogenous SA and NO increased the activities of PPO and PAL. In addition, it was observed that the SA and NO have effective functions in decreasing the damages induced by NaCl salinity. The seeds of G. max cv. Union × Elf (called L17) were obtained from the Institute of Sapling and Seed in Tehran and experiments have been done in Science and Research Branch, Islamic Azad University. After treatment with SA, SNP and NaCl, the plants were harvested for the estimation of ionic contents and assay of enzyme activities. The results showed that SA and NO act synergistically to reduce the damaging effects of salt tress via enhancing the activity of antioxidative systems.

Effect of salicylic acid Effect of application of salicylic acid and potassium silicate on some morphological, physiological and biochemical traits in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) grown under salt stress

Water and soil salinity on environmental agents limit plant growth and its productivity in Iran. In order to reduce the adverse effects of salinity on plants, different compounds are used. In this study, the effects of salicylic acid and potassium silicate were investigated on wheat plants under salt stress. A factorial experiment in a randomized complete block was conducted by applying 100 mM ...

Protective effect of exogenous nitric oxide on alleviation of oxidative damage induced by high salinity in rice (Oryza sativa L.) seedlings

To find the protective role of exogenous nitric oxide (NO) on salinity-stressed rice seedlings, a CRD-based factorial experiment with three replications was conducted in Agronomy Laboratory of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, University of Guilan, in 2012. The experimental design consisted of healthy and vigorous seedlings of two rice cultivars, Khazar and Goohar, the last already known as...

Nitric oxide ameliorates salinity tolerance in Pyrodwarf pear (Pyrus communis) rootstocks by regulating polyamine content

Nitric oxide (NO), an endogenous signaling molecule, is involved in various physiological processes and stress responses in plants. In the present research, Pyrodwarf pear (Pyrus communis) rootstocks were grown by nutrient solution to investigate the effects of sodium nitroprusside (SNP) application as an NO donor at 0, 0.1, 0.5, and 1 mM levels on plant stress tolerance, content of ma...

Effect of salicylic acid sparay on the leaf ascorbate, proline and quercetin content in ultra-violet stressed Pepper seedlings

The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of SA on UV-A, UV-B, and UV-C stressed plants. Data showed that SA counteracted the UV harmful effects on pepper. Pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) seedlings sprayed with salicylic acid (SA) and treated with UV-A (320-390 nm), UV-B (312 nm), and UV-C (254 nm) of 6.1, 5.8, and 5.7 W m-2, respectively. UV significantly increased contents of as...
